The Hollywood history of Walton Sanders Goggins
When Walton Goggins was three years old, his parents got divorced. His mother worked hard, so the boy was raised by his uncle and aunt, provincial actors. Walton decided to follow their example. From 14 years old, Goggins dreamed of an actor's career, constantly traveling around auditions. However, it took a long time to wait for the first notable role. Only at the age of 19 years old, he played in the TV movie "Murder in Mississippi".
This project helped him to finally determine the guidelines in life. At the age of 19 years old, Walton Goggins moved to Los Angeles and quickly found a new job - a cameo role in the comedy "Mr. Saturday Night" with Billy Crystal. But something went wrong, and the footage was simply cut out of the movie. This scene can only be found in additional material on the DVD. Because of this failure, Goggins had to work hard in the parking at night and sell cowboy boots, paying for individual sessions with a speech-technical trainer (as Walton “corrected” his southern accent).
After several months of working with a trainer, he told me: your appearance is not very good, it means you have talent, and for the sake of it you will have to work harder than others. What was I thinking then? "He just said that I'm so ugly?"
In 1994, Goggins could play the opponent of Hilary Swank in the movie “Karate Kid 4,” but after the final audition, he was refused. The role went to another actor, but Goggins played a villain's friend, which allowed him to expand his portfolio and gain a foothold in the industry.
The real breakthrough came only three years later when Goggins got one of the roles in "The Apostle", the director's project of Robert Duvall. The film did not make him an actor of the first magnitude, but he began to be recognized, including celebrities. Goggins remembered with fondness the first meeting with Daniel Day-Lewis at the Golden Globes ceremony in 2002: “He looked at me intently and then said, " I know you. You 're Walton Goggins! The Apostle is one of my favorite movies." I had no words.”
